One for the Gamers

Back when I was learning four guitar pieces for my exam in school, I learned two of those on my PlayStation 3. Learning how to play guitar over a gaming console may be a new one on you. However, there are games like Rocksmith that allow you to connect your electric guitar to your console or PC and play some songs. This lesson will be primarily video based so enjoy a bit of a break from last week's text based lesson on pentatonic scales.

How does the game work?

The original two games are Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014. Ubisoft has, as of the past year, announced their intention to transform the game into a subscription service called Rocksmith+. With Rocksmith you can learn to play a guitar or a bass guitar. For the purpose of this website, we'll stick to the guitar. You can learn to play chords to a song, the lead guitar's solo or the second guitar's notes depending on the song. The base games contain certain songs, and you can purchase additional DLCs which allow you to play more songs.
