Musicals are a fun way to experience something a little different to your standard film. My own secondary
school required students to participate in the annual musical. The year I had to partake in the running of
the musical was the year the school chose to do The Sound of Music. I spent a
decent chunk of time figuring out how to use a lighting board and play around with that. Half the lines of
the play are still drilled into my head.
Fast forward to my final year when I was studying music for my exams. I had to choose four guitar pieces for
my exams. I was advised to play songs from different genres to demonstrate that I could play songs from more
than one genre. The song I ended up playing was Close Every Door from the
musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Here's a great mix of songs to play which fans of musicals, both old and new, will recognise. If you're
not a musical fan but love soccer then
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - Close Every Door
Les Miserables - Castle on a Cloud
The Sound of Music - Edelweiss
Grease - You're the One That I Want
Wicked - Defying Gravity
The Greatest Showman - A Million Dreams
Carousel - You'll Never Walk Alone
